News Release - Lease Rights and Obligations in Private Seniors' Residences

09 January 2020

On last October 8, Ministers Marguerite Blais and Andrée Laforest launched two simple and accessible guides to answer questions from current and future tenants of private seniors' residences about their rights and obligations.

Under the responsibility of the Secrétariat aux aînés du ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, these guides were developed in collaboration with the Régie du logement and thanks to the valuable input of partners who are well aware of seniors' concerns:

  • the Association des droits des personnes retraitées et préretraitées;
  • the Conférence des Tables régionales de concertation des aînés du Québec, represented on the working committee by the Table de concertation des aînés de l'Île de Montréal;
  • the Fédération des centres d’assistance et d’accompagnement aux plaintes;
  • the Quebec seniors' housing groupe;
  • the Réseau FADOQ;
  • the Réseau québécois des OSBL d’habitation.

These guides are available in print at the centres d'assistances et d'accompagnement aux plaintes (CAAP) and online.

They are a part of a three-year pilot project carried out by the CAAPs at the request of the Government of Québec with the aim of including a mandate to provide information, assistance and support to private seniors' residences tenants as part of their usual service offer. Organizations and other stakeholders working with seniors are therefore invited to refer seniors to the CAAP in their region for any questions or requests for assistance with respect to private seniors' residences leases.
